This ancient predatory fish has been around for a long time. They were massacred throughout the last century because they were thought to be a nuisance and were also considered a trash fish. They were also thought to destroy the populations of popular game fish species such as bass and crappie. A few states along the Mississippi river think that the Alligator gar can be the new line of defense.
